11 Things About Foxcatcher That The Film Covered Up

The true story behind the Hollywood film.

Foxcatcher has opened in cinemas to a rapture of critical acclaim. The story is centred around John DuPont and his eccentric involvement in funding Olympic wrestlers Mark Schultz and Dave Schultz. Despite this being a true story, with several historically accurate scenes, the director Bennet Miller and his team have taken several liberties with the truth. The story, written by E. Max Frye and Dan Futterman, is very much a work of fiction that incorporates aspects of the real John du Pont / Dave Schultz controversy.

Despite problems with the story, it is still very much a satisfying film. Critics have praised the acting performances of Steve Carrell, Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo. It’s an emotionally engrossing film that will please fans who enjoy highbrow movies.

From a more sports orientated point of view, this film is also very satisfying. The wrestling scenes are very realistic and get over the intensity of the athletic combat. This film deserves to be recognised as one of the top efforts in the sport film genre. However, it does fail to get over the actual intensity of a wrestling training camp. The physical intensity and training schedules of Olympic wrestlers are full day sessions that pose gruelling challenges. Sitting around drinking whiskey isn’t really an option, especially with the careful nutrition that wrestlers observe.

But before we get into Foxcatcher’s inaccuracies, a quick note on what was accurate. John du Pont really did shoot Dave Schultz to death, and that scene was exactly how it happened.

It was a terrible incident that was largely unexplained beyond John du Pont simply losing his mind – although the judge didn’t rule that du Pont was insane. Instead, du Pont was sentenced for third degree murder and ruled mentally ill. He lived the rest of his life in a mental home and was refused parole in 2009. He died a year later and was buried in his Foxcatcher wrestling singlet.

Foxcatcher is an engrossing and tragic story, a narrative that demands further investigation into the true circumstances.

The destruction wreaked by Islamist militants in Nigeria when they slaughtered an estimated 2,500 people including a woman while she was in labour has been revealed in shocking new satellite images.

Terror group Boko Haram outraged the world last week when they indiscriminately murdered innocent men, women and children as they attacked the towns of Baga and Doron Baga.

Now, new images obtained by Amnesty International show how the towns were devastated by the assault - with more than 3,700 structures including houses and schools completely destroyed.

Destruction: It's estimated that 2,500 people were killed and more than 3,000 buildings were razed to the ground

n the pictures taken beforehand, the areas in red show buildings and trees in the densely packed towns in the north of the country.

But in the pictures taken after the massacre, they have been decimated and the infra-red satellite images instead reveal grey areas where the militants savagely razed the towns.

The destruction shown in these images matches the horrific stories from eyewitnesses revealing how Boko Haram militants shot hundreds of civilians in cold blood.

One witness described how the ruthless terror group were shooting indiscriminately, killing even small children and a woman who was in labour.

He added: 'Half of the baby boy is out and she died like this.'

Ibrahim Gambo, a 25-year-old truck driver, survived the relentless attack in Baga but he still doesn't know if his wife and daughter are safe.

He said: 'As we were running for our lives, we came across many corpses, both men and women, and even children.

'Some had gunshot wounds in the head and some had their legs bound and hands tied behind their backs.'

Yahaya Takakumi, a 55-year-old farmer, revealed to Nigeria's Premium Times how he managed to flee Baga with one of his wives - but does not know if his four children, his second wife or his elder brother managed to escape.

Tying the knot at the St. Johns Fisher Catholic Church, followed by a reception at the Royal Motor Yacht Club in her home turf of Cronulla, the couple have yet to go on their honeymoon due to their hectic work schedules.

'Hopefully in the summer time. It is just work now. It has been everyday,' said Tristan.

While the pair are currently based in Los Angeles, Tahyna and Tristan are planning to move to Australia, with the Irish dancer falling head over heels with the country.

'A couple more years I think and then we will try and move out here.'

'I haven't seen her (Cheyenne) do a show for a couple of years, so it is kind of fitting that we are both here to support her and I am looking forward to seeing her!' Tahyna said ahead of the show.

Cheyenne was also her sister's bridesmaid over the weekend when Tahyna walked down the aisle in a stunning white strapless dress from Pallas Couture to wed Tristan.

On October 2008, Raffaele Sollecito was convicted, together with his then girl friend, Amanda Knox, on Meredith Kercher's murder. Sollecito's father knew about their relationship as his son was very open about Knox. Their friends would always see them hugging and cuddling. They seem inseparable even on facing the charges for Kercher's murder. By December 2009, both of them were found guilty. According to the statements of their housemates, both Sollecito and Knox were drug users.

One source summarized the evidences that point Sollecito's participation in Kercher's murder. The bra clasp had Sollecito's DNA on its hooks. Also, there was a knife recovered at Sollecito's home. It has both Kercher's and Amanda's DNA. Another evidence that was found was a footprint in the victim's blood. It was found at the bathroom which is believed to be Sollecito's right foot. What made the evidences strong was that both Sollecito and Knox' made contradicting alibis on what they did on the night of the murder.

Sollecito and Knox have ended their relationship. Knox broke up with Sollecito when he sabotaged Knox' alibi to clear her name on Kercher's murder. Knox was firm with her statement that she was watching a DVD and having an initimate moment with Sollecito at the time of the murder. However, Sollecito said that he could not recall if Knox was with him.

Like all high - profile cases, many people would love to know more about its nitty - gritties. That may be the reason why Sollecito's book was a big hit and made controversy. However, Sollecito and his ghostwriter , will stand trial because of the alleged false claims that were found in the book. The hearing is expected to begin on the 3rd week of January 2015. This will be followed by a retrial on the murder case, possibly on March 2015.
