[This post contains MAJOR SPOILERS for Game of Thrones season 4.]
-
IMAX Corporation and HBO recently announced a historic team-up to release two episodes of the network’s critically acclaimed and highest-rated series, Game of Thrones. The Game of Thrones episodes will hit IMAX theaters later this month and screen for a week. Along with the two episodes of the show’s fourth season, IMAX will premiere the first footage for Game of Throne season 5, which is set to debut in April.
When the IMAX release was first announced, it was only set to premiere in 150 theaters and it was unknown which episodes would screen. Now, IMAX has revealed which season 4 episodes will be shown and expanded the number of theaters in which they will appear.
On the IMAX blog, the company announced the final two episodes of Game of Thrones season 4, “The Watchers on the Wall” and “The Children,” are those which will screen in over 200 theaters starting on January 29th. The episodes will be digitally re-mastered into the IMAX format. The company also released two posters, one for each episode, that depict major events (and character deaths) from both the penultimate and final episodes of season 4.

Similar to the IMAX screenings as a whole, the Game of Thrones posters are meant for fans of HBO’s fantasy series (or, at least, for those that don’t mind major spoilers in their TV posters). In addition to depicting major events from both episodes, the posters feature quotes from well-known and fan-favorite characters Ygritte (Rose Leslie) and Tyrion Lannister (Peter Dinklage).
Although the minimalist posters may not adequately tease the expansive scope of both “The Watchers on the Wall” and “The Children,” they’re sure to be a hit among fans, especially those that will attend the IMAX screenings of both Game of Thronesepisodes and see the season 5 teaser trailer.
Game of Thrones season 4 episodes 9 and 10 “The Watchers on the Wall” and “The Children” will premiere in IMAX theaters Thursday, January 29th, 2015; tickets went on sale January 16th, 2015. Game of Thrones returns for season 5 on Sunday, April 12th, 2015 @9PM on HBO.
