Rotting in obscurity and with workers spitroasting PIGS on deck, the once-majestic QE2 languishes in Dubai as plan to turn it into 400-room hotel appears to have run aground

    It left British waters for the final time amid fanfare and fireworks, destined to become a beacon of modern accommodation in a gilded corner of the Middle East.
    But the Queen Elizabeth II has been left to rot in obscurity after plans to transform the iconic cruise liner into a luxury 900-room hotel apparently stalled.
    Photographs reveal that the former pride of the Cunard Line is still languishing in a Dubai dockyard - its planned makeover now more than a year overdue.
    In one picture, workmen can be seen spitroasting a pig over a makeshift barbecue. Others show deserted decks, with sun loungers stacked in one of the swimming pools.
    The images have sparked outrage among former crew members and campaigners, who say that the liner is being treated with 'disrespect'. 
    Marc-Antoine Bombail, author of several books on the QE2 said: 'The Queen Elizabeth 2 has to be preserved for future generations because she is a vision of majesty, power, luxury and elegance with no equivalent in today's shipping world.
